Pope explains what St. Therese of Lisieux can teach Christians about spirituality

October 1st is the feast day of St. Therese of Lisieux. Even though the French saint passed away at the age of 24, her short life continues to have great impact. During a general audience on April 6th 2011, the Pope explained what “The Little Flower” can teach Christians about  spirituality.  BENEDICT XVI (6/04/2012) “Theresa received permission to enter the Carmel of Lisieux at the tender age of fifteen. Her name in religion – Sister Theresa of the Child Jesus and the Holy Face – expresses the heart of her spirituality, centered on the contemplation of God’s love revealed in the mysteries of the Incarnation and Redemption.  In imitation of Christ, Theresa sought to be little in all things and to seek the salvation of the world. Taken ill in her twenty-third year, she endured great physical suffering in union with the crucified Lord; she also experienced a painful testing of faith which she offered for the salvation of those who deny God. By striving to embody God’s lo...

October 1 is the Feast Day of Saint Therese of the Child Jesus

+ O St. Therese of the Child Jesus and of the Holy Face,   who during your short life on earth  became a mirror of angelic purity,  of love strong as death,  and of wholehearted abandonment to God,  now that you rejoice in the reward of your virtues,  cast a glance of pity on me  as I leave all things in your hands.   Make my troubles your own,  speak a word for me to Our Lady Immaculate,  whose flower of special love you were to that Queen of Heaven  "who smiled on you at the dawn of life." Beg her powerful intercession  the grace I yearn for so ardently at this moment... (State your intention here....) and that she join with it a blessing  that may strengthen me during life,  defend me at the hour of death,  and lead me straight on to a happy eternity.  Amen. + O God, who did inflame with the Spirit of Love,  the soul of your servant There...

Uruguayan President José Mujica, has earned the nickname of the “poorest,” or the “most generous,” president in the world By  LARA FERNANDEZ Usually presidents are not associated with poverty. In a recent interview, Mujica told Spain’s  El Mundo  that he earns a salary of $12,500 a month, but only keeps $1,250 for himself, donating the rest to charity. The president said that the only big item he owns is his  VW  car, valued at $1,945 dollars. The farmhouse in which he lives in Montevideo is under his wife’s name, Lucía Topolansky, a Senator, who also donates part of her salary. “I ...

What is a martyr?

The martyr bears witness to Christ who died and rose, to whom he/she is united by charity. He/she bears witness to the truth of the faith and of Christian doctrine. He/she endures death through an act of fortitude." - CCC n. 2473 Martyrs do not just die for the Catholic faith.  They live the faith before they become martyrs. Blessed Pedro Calungsod was endowed with the Christian virtues needed by saints and martyrs to live and to die for Catholic faith:   Faith by making God the center of his life and his constant reference point. Not only did Pedro firmly believe the truths of the faith taught by the Church, but he also studied them thoroughly.  His knowledge so affected his life that he volunteered to go to the missions with Fr, Diego. Hope  that was rooted in his strong faith in God and fully alive with the enthusiasm of ...
