Saint Bernadette

At the ninth apparition, Mary asked Bernadette to scrape the ground, saying to her "Go to the spring, drink of it and wash yourself there." Wondering where the spring might be, Bernadette looked and only saw a puddle nearby. There is only a little muddy water to begin with, enough for Bernadette to drink. At first this water is muddy and dirty then, little by little, it becomes clear. "You will pray to God for sinners." The lady said. Bernadette was asked what the lady said to her. Then the lady once more spoke: "Penance, penance, penance, pray for sinners." The muddied face of Bernadette disgusted some of the spectators. Some also doubt Bernadette's mental state. The moment is harsh to her.

As Bernadette left the grotto, the tiny spring continued to well up and by the next day was flowing steadily down into the river. The people regarded its discovery by Bernadette as a miracle.

On March 25, Bernadette started for the grotto at dawn. When the vision appeared to her, Bernadette said: "Would you kindly tell me who you are?" When the girl had repeated the question twice more, the Lady replied: "I am the Immaculate Conception. I want a chapel here."

Bernadette never knew what "Immaculate Conception" is, since the subject is not taught even in the parishes. This answer, when reported by Bernadette, caused the local excitement to rise to a still higher pitch and the feeling grew that Bernadette's visitor was the Blessed Virgin, only four years before the dogma of the Immaculate Conception had been promulgated.

Grateful for the gift of life, for waking up today, and for the comfortable place I live in, I was able to take a bath twice today. I am grateful for my job, that I can buy food for my lunch and dinner, and I can pay some debts and buy some things I needed for my room decorations. I am grateful for Aaron's generosity, he always shares his viand during lunch, and he even bought banana queue and lugaw for our merienda. And I am thankful for his generosity for always consistently sharing his password on Netflix so that I was able to watch my favorite Korean TV show. I am grateful that Nestor called me thrice today. Grateful for all the things that you have given me today Lord. Thank you Lord.

Fluvial Parade of the Child King

It has been a tradition to have the image of the Child Jesus visit His parents before His grand day. The icon will be leaving His home in the Basilica del Sto. Niño which is in the heart of Cebu City and will be paraded to His foster father in the St. Joseph Parish in Mandaue City, another city next to His domicile. A great number of dynamic and lively devotees will be following the Infant, as He make His way, once a year, to His father Joseph. The Niño stays with His father for a day and a night, while believers from nearby cities and municipalities can join with Jesus’ celebration and have a vigil in the parish. After an overnight stay with His father, He will be voyaging His way to His mother in a nearby island in Lapu-Lapu. The ceremonies in Cebu begin with this early morning fluvial procession, reenacting the coming of the Spaniards. The Holy Child Jesus is usually kept in a glass case bedecked with blossoming flowers, which will be carried by...
