Welcome to Cebu our beloved Archbishop Jose S. Palma, the new Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Cebu

While Archbishop Jose S. Palma got his appointment as the new Archbishop of Cebu from Pope Benedict XVI on October 15, 2010, His Eminence was only formally installed in ceremonies held last January 13, 2010.

The Eucharistic Celebration and Canonical Installation was held at the jam-packed Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral. A luncheon reception followed at the Cebu International Convention Center.

A dinner reception was held the day before, at the Sacred Heart Center, Cebu City.

Archbishop Jose Palma, who hails from Dingle in the Archdiocese of Jaro, Iloilo, served as Archbishop of Palo in the province of Leyte. He succeeds Cardinal Ricardo J. Vidal, who has retired.

Blessed Pedro Calungsod "The 2nd Filipino Saint"

Pedro Calungsod was a 17th century teenage catechist of the Jesuit mission in the Marianas. On April 2, 1672 he was killed for his faith together with Bl. Diego San Luis Vitoris, SJ in Guam. The canonization process for Pedro Calungsod started on June 25, 1998. On March 5, 2000 he was declared a "beatus". On December 19, 2011 a miracle through his intercession was approved. The Holy Father has decreed that the canonization will be held in Rome on October 21, 2012.** The Life of A Martyr A Very Common Name "Calungsod" is a very native and descriptive Visayan family name. I am delighted to greet all of you, particularly His Holiness Bartholomaois I, Patriarch of Constantinople, and His Grace Rowan Williams, Archbishop of Canterbury. A special greeting goes to the Patriarchs and Major Archbishops of the Eastern Catholic Churches, and to the Presidents of the Bishops’ Conferences.
