STAND FOR THE ENVIRONMENT

By: Ms.Gina Lopez It’s been a pretty intense week. The climax was the mining forum - sponsored by Financial Executives of the Philippines (FINEX), Management Association of the Philippines (MAP) and Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI). While I welcomed being able to talk and share what I passionately believed in - it was a real challenge to talk before a largely unfriendly audience. I had presumed that there would be some individuals there who might perhaps share my passion for this country and the environment. The entrance fee was Php1 , 500 so the people who could afford this was of course the business group. Nevertheless the texts, emails of encouragement and support I got from the multitude convinced me that I did the right thing.        What did set a reaction in me was when Gerry Brimo called me a liar - and an ignorant one at that. Hmmm I really didn’t want to get into any kind of personal fight. I may have overdone that effort by saying – “Gerry I love you

"Sa banal na panahong ito, tayo ay naghahanda na tumulad kay Hesus at makiisa kay Hesus sa Kanyang pinakamalalim at pinakamagandang kuwento ng pag-ibig—ang pag-aalay ng Kanyang buhay para tayo ay mabuhay. At ito po sana ay ating isabuhay sa pamamagitan ng pag-ibig... Tularan po natin si Hesus sa Kanyang pag-ibig sa atin." -Archbishop Luis Antonio G. Tagle on Pope Benedict XVI's 2012 Lenten Message

Encounter with Christ and Lent

By Most Rev. Leonardo Y. Medroso NO, it is not true that the Catholic Church sets aside the forty days of the Season of Lent in order to make people who are happy unhappy; that she is a big killjoy damping an o the rwise bright atmosphere with a suffocating air of sober and serious practices of strict penances, long drawn prayer s, fasting and abstinence. The Church knows full well that no amount of human effort can erase the gnawing and perennial questions of suffering and death from man’s his consciousness; that the y are the re forever haunting and gnawing the soul of her faithful. The Season of Lent is meant to lead us to Christ. For only He has effectively grappled with the stark realities of suffering and death of His existence, and effectively transformed it into a new life. Hence, He alone can truly helped man to effectively face the se existential problems. Christ is the center of the Church, and central to Him is the Paschal My

Prayer and the Season of Lent

By Most Rev. Leonardo Y. Medroso THE Season of Lent summons us Chr is tians to pause and pray. It is a time of grace to look deep into ourselves, examine the motivations that drive our life, our status with the community and the environment, and above all, our relationship with the Transcendent without whom human life becomes a tumble of mess and meaningless bits of unrelated events. As it is said, an unexamined life is an ex is tence not worth living. Deep prayer is based on reality. It is not an imagined relationship with God, nei the r is it a mere conversation with the Fa the r in Heaven clo the d in piet is tic burst of emotions and interesting words. Genuine prayer is reality. It aims to bring us down deep into the realization of the Samaritan woman in John’s Gospel who, having been unmasked of her immoral love life and accepted it as a matter of fact, immediately asked Jesus about the nature of a true worship that is acceptable to God. THE SECRET IS SILENT PRAYER

A Meditation for Priests on Holy Thursday By Abp. Soc Villegas “ And the fire on the altar shall always burn, and the priest shall feed it, putting wood on it every day in the morning…This is the perpetual fire which shall never go out on the altar .” ( Lev 6:12-13) ” When He was at the table with them, He took bread, gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to them. Then their eyes were opened and they recognized Him …  They asked each other “Were not our hearts burning within us …?””(Luke 24, 3 0 -32) EVERY now and then, a younger brother priest would come up to me with these words, “How can we keep the fire of our priesthood alive? After only a few months after ordination, I already feel bored. I feel dry. I am not excited anymore. I might not last.” “A priest who is not at peace with himself will not be able to inspire peace in another soul. O priests, you bright candles enlightening human souls, let your brightness never be dimmed . “(Divine Mercy

MESSAGE OF HIS HOLINESS BENEDICT XVI FOR LENT 2012

MESSAGE OF HIS HOLINESS   BENEDICT XVI FOR LENT 2012 “ Let us be concerned for each other, to stir a response in love and good works ” (Heb 10:24) Dear Brothers and Sisters, The Lenten season offers us once again an opportunity to reflect upon the very heart of Christian life: charity. This is a favorable time to renew our journey of faith, both as individuals and as a community, with the help of the word of God and the sacraments. This journey is one marked by prayer and sharing, silence and fasting, in anticipation of the joy of Easter. This year I would like to propose a few thoughts in the light of a brief biblical passage drawn from the Letter to the Hebrews:“ Let us be concerned for each other, to stir a response in love and good works”. These words are part of a passage in which the sacred author exhorts us to trust in Jesus Christ as the High Priest who has won us forgiveness and opened up a pathway to God. Embracing Christ bears fruit in a life str
