iPhone 5: Most wanted features

DesignedbyItem's concept design for a future iPhone. Credit: designedbyitem.com Rumours and speculation are flying thick and fast over the iPhone 5; apparently "sources" have leaked details and rough release dates for the new Apple product. Until Apple actually confirms or denies these rumours, we can't give any details on the phone itself … but here is a list of the top features we hope to see included in the iPhone 5. Enhanced voice control Apple didn't show off any new voice-control features as part of its iOS 5 preview. But rumour has it that those features weren't quite ready to be shown off at Apple's WWDC in June, so we may very well get them. We do expect that Apple will continue to flesh out the voice controls for the iPhone with significant enhancements. It would be cool to be able to compose and send e-mails or text messages by just using your voice, no? *Micro HDMI out In March, Apple finally announced support for full 720p o

LADY GAGA: ON CAMERA TEARS AND SHOE THROWING

Quirky pop star Lady Gaga has added real tears and shoe throwing to her attention-grabbing repertoire this week, even though she wasn't the one performing. The ' Born This Way ' singer was moved to tears as she watched two contestants performing during the US TV-show 'So You Think You Can Dance.' Appearing as a guest judge on the show, Gaga (aka Mother Monster to fans), was overcome with emotion when dancers Marko and Allison performed their routine to Jeff Buckley's 'I Know It's Over,' as it reminded her of her youth. Gaga told the performers: "I'm just so proud of you. You really love to dance. There were so many things I did wrong when I was younger and so many things I wish I could take back. "I felt every moment of that in your dance tonight. You are absolutely incredible. Whether you are number one, three or ten, you have it," she added. And what of the shoe throwing? Gaga was so impressed by performers Sasha and Me

Historic rains kill at least 51 in South Korea

Seoul, South Korea (CNN) -- Massive downpours in South Korea -- the heaviest rains in a century -- are blamed for 51 deaths, the country's Central Disaster Relief Agency reported Friday. One person is also missing, the agency said. Conditions improved Friday morning when the Seoul Gimpo International Airport reported light rain and mist with overcast skies, according to the U.S. National Weather Service's international weather conditions website. On Thursday, rain fell in some areas around Seoul at a rate of 50 millimeters an hour (two inches an hour). The most recent numbers released by the Central Disaster Relief Agency indicated that much of the death toll comes from landslides triggered by the rain. In Chuncheon, 13 people were killed by landslides, while 16 were killed by the same phenomenon in Seoul. Another 18 died in Gyeonggi province. Five neighborhoods on the outskirts of Seoul had been under evacuation orders Thursday. But officials were able to restore ele

Convicted Mumbai gunman appeals his death sentence

by Harmeet Shah Singh India's Supreme Court received an appeal challenging the death sentence of the only surviving gunman from the 2008 terror attack in Mumbai, authorities said Friday. The plea filed on behalf of Mohammed Ajmal Kasab, was "under process," Supreme Court registrar Pukhraj R. Bora said. It was sent in by the authorities of the Mumbai jail where Kasab is being held, Bora said. No date has yet been set for hearing, he added. A trial court handed down the death sentence last year for Kasab, a Pakistani, on charges of murder, conspiracy and waging war on India. Mumbai's High Court upheld his conviction and sentence in February this year. Convicts on death-row in India reserve the right to challenge the sentencing in the nation's Supreme Court. They can also file a mercy petition with the country's president if the Supreme Court also turns down their plea. During the November 2008 raids, 10 men attacked Mumbai landmarks, including the

Norway Terrorist Suspect Denounces Benedict XVI In Online Manifesto

ROME, ITALY, July 27 (CNA/EWTN News) - An extensive online book written by Anders Behring Breivik criticizes Pope Benedict XVI for defending the rights of immigrants, especially Muslims. In his manifesto, "2083-European Declaration of Independence," Breivik calls Benedict XVI "God's Rottweiler," and accuses him of "embodying elements of the sensible and the silly Christian ways of treating the Islamic threat. "Although Benedict has stressed the need for 'reciprocity' in Christian-Muslim relations and urged Islamic countries to ensure religious rights for Christian migrants, he has also said that Christians should continue welcoming Muslim immigrants with open arms," Brievik wrote. Breivik was arrested for detonating a car bomb at the government headquarters in downtown Oslo on July 22. That attack took the lives of eight people and injured many more. Hours later he appeared at a youth camp for the children of the political Labour

Tuesday, July 26, 2011, Saints Joachim and Anne, Parents of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Tuesday, July 26, 2011 Saints Joachim and Anne, Parents of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Memorial) First Reading: Psalm: Gospel: Sirach 44:1, 10-15 Psalm 132:11, 13-14, 17-18 Matthew 13:16-17 She was full of faith, yet all her life had been tormented by thoughts against it. While apparently enjoying the peace and easiness of mind of souls who have reached a high state of virtue, she suffered such interior trials that she often told me her mind was so filled with all sorts of temptations and abominations that she had to strive not to look within herself...But for all that suffering her face never lost its serenity, nor did she once relax in the fidelity God asked of her. And so I regard her as one of he holiest souls I have ever met on this earth. -- St. Francis de Sales (speaking of St. Jane Frances de Chantal)

Amy Winehouse paved the way for British soul sisters

By Abbey Goodman , from CNN   When the tragic news of Amy Winehouse's death broke on Saturday, most stories focused on Winehouse's troubled personal life as much as her brief-but-luminous musical career. While it's true that since her award-winning multiplatinum album "Back to Black" was released in 2007, her tabloid antics have overshadowed her musical output, it's impossible to deny Winehouse's impact on music. Think about it: Would Adele's track "Rolling in the Deep" from her album "21" be as ubiquitous as it is today without Winehouse paving the way? It was Winehouse's combination of smoky-voiced retro '60s soul flavor and unabashed grittiness that opened the floodgates for British chanteuses like Duffy, Lily Allen, Florence Welch of Florence & the Machine, Estelle, Eliza Doolittle and even Winehouse's own goddaughter, 15-year-old Dionne Bromfield, to break into the U.S. music scene. Despite producing o

Afghan President Hamid Karzai condemned the hanging, saying "this action is not permitted in any culture or any religions," according to a statement Sunday, which provided details of the incident. Karzai said he has ordered local authorities to root out the militants and arrest them "as soon as possible." The boy was kidnapped Friday. It was unclear when he was killed. The incident comes amid a recent wave of attacks on local officials who are considered anti-Taliban. Less than two weeks ago, Ahmed Wali Karzai, Karzai's half-brother and a provincial council chief in neighboring Kandahar, was killed in his home by a longtime bodyguard. Elsewhere

Vatican Bank President: Larger Families Are Solution To Economic Crisis

The aging population of the United States and European nations is the “true origin of the current economic crisis,” according to the president of the Vatican Bank.   “The ever-increasing percentage of people who retire from their productive phase becomes a fixed cost which is impossible to absorb and sustain by those who produce,” writes Ettore Gotti Tedeschi. “The costs of an aging population cannot be sustained by young people, who, in addition to being fewer, might also ask themselves why they should do so, especially if they are immigrants.”   “Faced with this reality, it is indispensable to have the courage to address the theme of births and aging of the population,” he continues, adding   To ignore it is dangerous and it has become unavoidable to define a strategy to concretely support families in their natural vocation to have children. Only in this way can real economic recovery be triggered. A two-income family today earns less than the same family thirty years ago ea

taken from : Quinzo Nahariya, Israel (LifeNews.com) –  An unborn child who became a victim of abortion in Israel reportedly came back to life hours later despite spending five hours in a freezer following the abortion. The incident points to the humanity of a baby before birth and the frequent cases of botched abortions. Following the abortion, the father of the child asked to see the baby girl. After officials pulled her body from a cooler at the Western Galilee Hospital where the abortion was done, they discovered she was still alive. “I’ve been a doctor for 35 years and this is the first time I’ve ever seen such a thing happen. This is somewhat of a medical miracle,” Dr. Moshe Daniel, deputy chief of staff at the hospital, told the Jerusalem Post. The incident could prompt both an internal hospital and external governmental investigation into the failed abortion. “We’ve informed the Health Ministry and I guess they’ll appoint a commission of inquiry. The hospital will ask for

Message for World Youth Day, Madrid, August 2011 Pope Benedict XVI The search for a life truly greater

"Planted and built up in Jesus Christ, firm in the faith" (cf. Col 2:7). This is the theme of Pope Benedict XVI's Message for the 26th World Youth Day that will be celebrated in Madrid in August 2011. In his Message, the Holy Father emphasizes the importance of our personal relationship with the living Christ. The following is the Pope's Message.   Dear Friends, I often think back on the World Youth Day held in Sydney in 2008. There we had an experience of a great festival of faith in which the Spirit of God was actively at work, building deep communion among the participants who had come from all over the world. That gathering, like those on previous occasions, bore rich fruit in the lives of many young people and in the life of the whole Church. Now we are looking forward to the next World Youth Day, to be held in Madrid in August 2011. Back in 1989, several months before the historic fall of the Berlin Wall, this pilgrimage of young people halte
